The Department of Communities is a Queensland Government agency, committed to ensuring the development of social support services and community networks which are responsive to the needs of all Queenslanders.
The Preamble to the Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Justice Agreement states that the Department is 'the Queensland Government's lead agency in administering and providing necessary legislation and programs to hold young offenders 10-17 years accountable for their actions, while assisting with their rehabilitation and reintegration into the community in a culturally appropriate manner.' The Department is committed to the Justice Agreement and to reducing the over-representation of Indigenous young people in all areas of the criminal justice system. |
