The Indigenous Issues Unit of the Department of Justice will be responsible for coordinating and monitoring the overall effectiveness of the Victorian Aboriginal Justice Agreement on behalf of the Aboriginal Justice Forum and the Aboriginal Justice Working Group. It will provide executive support services to both the Forum and the Working Group. |

The Issues Unit's role will also include:
Providing advice and support to Justice Ministers and the Justice Portfolio on policy and program matters affecting the Aboriginal community.
Representing the Government on the Victorian Aboriginal Justice Advisory Committee and the Regional Aboriginal Justice Advisory Committees.
Developing and managing a range of initiatives and projects developed under the Aboriginal Justice Agreement.
Liaising with State and Commonwealth agencies in developing a whole-of-government approach to addressing underlying issues.
Monitoring and providing advice to the Justice Portfolio on the implementation of the recommendations of the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody.
Advocating on behalf of the Aboriginal Justice Agreement. | |
