    Summary Information:

Under phase 1 of the Victorian Aboriginal Justice Agreement, Nine Regional Aboriginal Justice Advisory Committees (RAJACs) were established across the State of Victoria, with the aim of facilitating relationships between local Aboriginal communities and justice agencies.

The overarching aim of building these relationships is to address the overrepresentation of Aboriginal people in the criminal justice system.

Each RAJAC's key role is to develop, implement and monitor Regional Justice Action Plans which are developed according to the principles and framework established under the Victorian Aboriginal Justice Agreement. Support is to be given to local communities to enhance their understanding and skills to ensure they have an active and equal role in developing their Regional Justice Action Plan.

Each region has a full-time executive officer, employed by the Department of Justice and Community Safety, who acts as a key support for each RAJAC. RAJACs include representatives from state and regional agencies, organisations and services.
