Summary Information:
Bawinanga Aboriginal Corporation (BAC) entered into a management agreement with experienced sports fishing tour operator Russell Kenny in 1996. Under the agreement Russell Kenny manages the license that BAC holds over the Liverpool and Tomkinson River systems in Central Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory.
Detailed Information:
BAC holds a licence over the two river systems under section 19 of the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976. In 1992 the Traditional Owners of the area rejected a proposal that a licence be granted direct to Russell Kenny, instead preferring that BAC hold the licence and enter into a management agreement with him. The management agreement provides for financial return to the Traditional Owners, which by 2002 has been in excess of $100,000.
