Summary Information:
Poruma Island is located 100 kilometres north-east of Thursday Island in the Torres Strait in far north Queensland. The Poruma Island Council (the Council) was one of over twenty island and Aboriginal councils of the Torres Strait. The Council was responsible for municipal services and is involved in the provision of medical services, public utilities and housing.

It was, however, absorbed by the Torres Strait Islands Regional Council in 2008 as part of the State government's amalgamation policy.
