The Shire of Carpentaria is located in far north Queensland and encompasses the towns of Normantown and Karumba. Normanton is the second oldest town in the Gulf area and provided port facilties for the gold rush in the late nineteenth century. Karumba is located 70 kilometres up the road from Normantown. Its industries include prawn and barramundi fishing, as well as live cattle exportation. The Pasminco Century Mine port site is also located there. |
