The Townsville RAAF Base Indigenous Land Use Agreement (the ILUA) between the native title parties of the area, the Wulgurkaba and the Bindal peoples, and the Commonwealth of Australia, covers an area of land at the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) base in Townsville that will be used for defence purposes. The ILUA was not made to enable a future act to be done or validated under the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth).
The agreement was made in conjunction with an agreement covering an area of land in the Townsville Town Common, north of the RAAF base, on which a permanent water source and artificial habitat for birds and aquatic life will be constructed, in compensation for the effect on native title rights of the RAAF base development. |
