Summary Information:
The Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories has 19 members. It has no political parties; the system being called a consensus government. Six Ministers and a Premier are elected by the members of the Assembly to form the Executive Council, also called the Cabinet.
As at 1 July 2000 there were 42,083 people in the Northwest Territories, approximately half of these being Aboriginal.
The Northwest Territories comprise 1,171,918 square kilometres. The main city is Yellowknife.
