Summary Information: | ||
The Inter-Council Aboriginal Consultative Committee (ICACC) is a collaboration of eight councils for the purpose of encouraging consistency in planning on a regional level, and undertaking projects that would otherwise not be possible by an individual council. The Councils involved include Bass Coast, Casey, Greater Dandenong, Knox, Cardinia, Frankston, Kingston and the Mornington Peninsula.
Detailed Information:
The terms of reference for the ICACC are to: - Provide an Aboriginal perspective to the operation of local government and other agencies within the region; - Identify issues and areas where cooperation can be improved between local government bodies and Indigenous communities; - Identify issues affecting Indigenous people and develop a strategic plan for local government and regional agencies to address those issues; - Enhance and promote an understanding of Aboriginal culture, society and heritage within the region; - Make recommendations to councils, Indigenous communities and non-government organisations in relation to issues that may affect Indigenous communities within the region.
Outcomes: | ||
The Cities of Greater Dandenong and Casey along with the Shires of Cardinia and Bass Coast, as an initiative of the ICACC, share the costs of employing an Aboriginal Policy Officer who is involved with and advises on native title, NAIDOC Week, town planning matters, Reconciliation Week events, protocols, cultural heritage and policy direction. |
