The Indjilandji People and the Queensland Department of Main Roads agreed to work together on the construction of the bridge over the Georgina River. The bridge is a major link on the Barkly Highway between Queensland and the Northern Territory.
The Indjilandji People, who have two native title applications over areas around Camooweal, and the Department of Main Roads were closely involved in the bridge's planning, including a survey of significant sights in the area. Close to half of the workers on the bridge were Indigenous and many of these trained workers will be involved in the next stage of construction of the Highway. |
