The Far West Coast Working Group was launched with the signing of this negotiating agreement between five Aboriginal groups representing Aboriginal communities in the region. The Agreement was signed by representatives of the Yalata, Maralinga Tjarutja, Mirning, Wirangu and Yabi Dinah Native title claimant groups. The Aboriginal Legal Rights Movement as the Representative Body coordinating the negotiation process was also a signatory of the Agreement. | ||
Detailed Information: | ||
The general terms of the Agreement include: '- the basic administrative structure for the operation of the group; - the key objectives sought; - an agreement to support a joint anthropological survey of the region (to be commissioned by the Aboriginal Legal Rights Movement); - a process for resolving disputes; - a statement of the geographic boundaries of the region within which the group would operate; and - a statement regarding funding responsibilities of the Aboriginal Legal Rights Movement and each community group for participation in the negotiation process.' (Edmunds, 1999:183) The Agreement also states that if any individual community is approached, the matter should be referred back to the joint working group. |
