The Indigenous Housing Authority of the Northern Territory (IHANT) is a partnership between the Northern Territory Government and the Commonwealth Government represented by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission (ATSIC) and by the Department of Family and Community Services. The parties to the partnership pool their funding for Indigenous housing which is then allocated by IHANT to the seven ATSIC Regional Councils in the Territory. IHANT's fundamental objective is the achievement of better housing for Indigenous people, to be accomplished by Indigenous people themselves making decisions about their own housing; by cooperative working relationships existing between all levels of government; and by the achievement of maximum outcomes through the pooling of funding from all levels of government. |
