The Conservation Act 1987 is an Act to promote the conservation of New Zealand's natural and historic resources, and for that purpose to establish a Department of Conservation. In Section 4 of the Act, it is stated that this 'Act shall so be interpreted and administered as to give effect to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi.'
