Summary Information:
The Communique, signed between ATSIC Chairman Geoff Clark and Premier of Tasmania Jim Bacon, provides the basis for a partnership agreement to improve outcomes from governmental activity for the State's Aboriginal population.

The partnership would be based on a multi-agency approach to identified priority areas, including education, health and well-being, economic development and employment, and community consultation.

The final agreement would recognise that true reconciliation can be achieved only through Government and the wider community supporting policies linking recognition of Aboriginal rights with measures to reduce disadvantage.
