| The Ourimbah Protocol forms a unique partnership between State Forests of NSW and Central Coast community groups and businesses, including Darkinjung Local Aboriginal Land Council, The Combined Community Organisation (Gosford), Central Coast Landcare Network and The Sydney Rainforest. The Ourimbah Protocol is the first collaborative forest management protocol to be made in New South Wales. Its aim is to improve the social, cultural, environmental and economic benefits arising from the management of the 65,000 hectares of State forests along the Central Coast. | ||
| Detailed Information: | ||
| Under the Protocol a number of environmental management issues are dealt with including: - significant cultural and ecological areas; - biodiversity; - water; - remnant and riparian vegetation; - fire management; - recreation management; - a sustainable timber industry. Together the signatories are working to address these issues by creating a more robust, fair and sustainable forest management that acknowledges the needs and values of the wider community and thus improve the social, cultural, environmental and economic setting for the Central Coast. Within the Protocol respect for the Partners to the agreement and to the forest is acknowledged and a Plan of Action details how issues will be resolved through delivering projects on the ground. | ||
