The Participation Agreement was made between Diavik Diamond Mines Inc (DDMI) and the Lutsel K'e Dene Band on 24 September 2001 for the Diavik Diamonds Project. It reflects and reinforces the principles of mutual respect, active partnership, and long-term commitment that will guide their working relationship. | ||
Detailed Information: | ||
The key undertakings in the Participation Agreement provide for: - DDMI's commitments to provide training, employment and business opportunities to members of the Lutsel K'e Dene Band; - Provisions for the Lutsel K'e Dene Band to work with DDMI in reaching project-related employment and business development opportunities; - The affirmation by the Lutsel K'e Dene Band for their support for the development, construction and operations of the Diavik Diamonds Project as approved by the Federal Minister of the Environment in November 1999. In so providing, the Lutsel K'e Dene Band has ratified the Diavik Environmental Agreement and the Socio-Economic Monitoring Agreement. In addition to this agreement, DDMI has completed Participation Agreements with four other neighbouring Aboriginal groups including the Yellowknives Dene First Nation, the Dogrib Treaty 11 Council, the North Slave Metis Alliance and the Kitikmeot Inuit Association. |
