Summary Information: | ||
The Participation Agreement was made between Diavik Diamond Mines Inc (DDMI) and the Kitikmeot Inuit Association (KIA) on 23 September 2001 for the Diavik Diamonds Project. It reflects and reinforces the principles of mutual respect, active partnership, and long-term commitment that will guide their working relationship.
Detailed Information:
The key undertakings in the Participation Agreement provide for: - DDMI's commitments to provide training, employment and business opportunities to members of the Kitikmeot Inuit Association. To facilitate the achievement of these objectives, the KIA agrees to maintain and make available to DDMI on an ongoing basis, an up-to-date human resource inventory and a business registry for their memberships. - The creation of a joint implementation committee to outline responsibilities, tasks and timelines for reaching project-related employment and business development opportunities for members of the KIA. The KIA agrees to employ a representative to liaise with DDMI on these and other social development issues. - The affirmation by the KIA for their support for the development, construction and operations of the Diavik Diamonds Project as approved by the Federal Minister of the Environment in November 1999. In addition to this agreement, DDMI has completed Participation Agreements with four other neighbouring Aboriginal groups including the Yellowknives Dene First Nation, the Dogrib Treaty 11 Council, the North Slave Metis Alliance and the Lutsel K'e Dene Band. |
