The Constitution Act of 1982 was the first Canadian-made amendment to the Constitution. It grants Canada full political independence from Britain, and incorporates a Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms which outlines the individual rights of every citizen of Canada. The Constitution Act 1982 was signed into law by Her Majesty Elizabeth II Queen of Canada on April 17, 1982 in Ottawa. While Queen Elizabeth remains Queen and Head of State, Canada has full sovereignty over its dominion.
