The Townsville RAAF Base #2 ILUA allows for the granting of an area of land from the State of Queensland to the Commonwealth of Australia. The land will be used by the Commonwealth for defence purposes. The ILUA specifies that the right to negotiate provisions of the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth) do not apply to the grant of the land.
The ILUA covers an amendment to an earlier ILUA over the area. The additional land included in the amendment will enable the construction of Ordnance Loading Aprons (OLA) and further accommodate a Quick Reaction Alert Facility to support the RAAF base operations. In her media release about the agreement, the Hon. Fran Bailey, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Defence, explained that OLA are used 'to allow aircraft weapons to be more effectively loaded onto Air Force combat aircraft and consists of ten aprons for fighter and strike aircraft and four for maritime patrol aircraft'. |
