The Tlicho/Deh Cho Boundary Agreement (Boundary Agreement) is made between the Tlicho (Dogrib) First Nation and the Deh Cho First Nations.
The Agreement acknowledges the assertion of traditional use and occupation of lands by the Tlicho and the Deh Cho extending respectively to the Monfwi Line and the Watershed Line, as indicated on a map attached to the Boundary Agreement. It also acknowledges the desire of both parties to 'establish a boundary line between their respective territories while also respecting the rights of all Dene and Metis to continue exercising any traditional harvesting rights which they may have within either the Deh Cho territory or Tlicho territory.'
The Agreement:
Resolves the issue of a boundary by the description of a boundary line between the traditional lands of the two parties;
Sets out the rights of the Tlicho, who have a right to harvest, to continue to do so in an area south and west of the boundary line up to the Monfwi line;
Sets out the rights of the Deh Cho, who have a right to harvest, to continue to do so in an area north and east of the boundary line up to the Watershed line;
Sets out the right of both parties to be consulted prior to 'the approval of any project, or any other action, which could impact on traditional harvesting activities on either side of the boundary line';
Provides for amendment of the Tlicho Land Claims and Self-Government Agreement to reflect the Boundary Agreement. |
