| The Pastoral Access Memorandum of Understanding Sample has been prepared by the National Native Title Tribunal. It is a template for MoUs between pastoral lessees and Indigenous people who intend to resolve the co-existence of their pastoral and traditional rights respectively in the long term. This may be done through an Indigenous Land Use Agreement, for example, or as part of the formal mediation process of a native title claim. The MoU aims to 'build better relationships' between parties in general and can also be used as a practical guide for negotiations. It sets out provisions for accessing and using the land during negotiations, regarding: -notification of access; -exclusion zones within the lease; -camping; -fires; -gates and fences; -firearms; -traditional uses of flora and fauna; -dogs; -alcohol; -rubbish and weeds; -use of station (pastoral lease) infra-structure and roads; and -protection of cultural heritage sites (within state and Commonwealth legislative requirements). It also sets out 'Ways of Relating' for the parties, such as setting up a contact group of people from the Indigenous party for the lessee to contact. As it is a sample, the provisions of the MoU can be altered, taken out or others added in to suit the particular needs of each pastoral station.
