Indigenous Housing and Infrastructure Agreement (Tasmania)

Date: 1 January 2005
Place:
State/Country:Tasmania, Australia
Alternative Names:
  • IHIA (Tasmania)
  • Subject Matter: | Health and Community Services
    Summary Information:

The Indigenous Housing and Infrastructure Agreement ('the IHIA') was finalised in 2005-06 (DHHS 2005).

The IHIA 'will provide funds of over $4.0 million in 2006-07 to deliver sound asset and service planning and development for Indigenous people in Tasmania. The Agreement will include initiatives that relate to sector reform and identification of investment opportunities' (Parliament 2006).

Along with the IHIA, there has been a draft State Strategic Plan identifying strategies for housing providers and a State Strategic Planning Committee has been established 'to increase community participation in Aboriginal housing planning activities' (DHHS 2005).

Unlike the other Australian states and territories, Tasmania did not have an Indigenous Housing Agreement by June 2004 or an interim agreement for 2004-05 (FaCS 2004, [4.1]).

The Commonwealth Government had negotiated Indigenous Housing and Infrastructure Agreements (IHIAs) for 2005-2008 with each state and territory government by May 2006 (see Community Affairs Legislation Committee 2006, 76).
