Summary Information:
The Kemspey Shire Council issued an Apology to the Stolen Generation on 22 June 1999. The Apology expresses regret at the findings of the National Inquiry into the Separation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children from their Families. The people of the Kempsey Shire acknowledge the ill conceived and inappropropriate nature of past government policy and apologise for the pain and suffering of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People as a result. They also acknowledge the importance of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community to the future of the social and cultural well-being of Kempsey.
