The Central Board to Watch over the Interests of Aborigines ('the Board') was established as an administrative board in 1860. It was appointed by the Victorian Government to control and oversee the lives of Aboriginal people. In 1869 the Board became the Central Board for the Protection of the Aborigines and in 1957, was reformed as the Aborigines Welfare Board. The Board is commonly referred to as the Aborigines Protection Board or APB. |
