The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Women's Task Force on Violence Report (the Report) was tabled in Queensland Parliament on the 2 December 1999. The Report makes 123 recommendations on ways to reduce violence in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and suggests ways to address underlying social, spiritual and economic disadvantage. | ||

The Report is divided into 4 Sections. Section 1 outlines forms of violence and discusses transgenerational trauma as cause and effect. Case studies are also included. Section 2 deals with the causes and contributing factors of violence and covers issues such as the effects of colonialisation, women's sociopolitical theory, psychological theories, and alcohol and drug abuse. Section 3 examines the extent of violence and the forms it may take. Section 4, entitled 'Working for Change', addresses policy approaches to dealing with violence and provides extensive recommendations regarding issues including:
