The Queensland Seafood Industry Association (QSIA) is the peak body representing the interests of Queensland's seafood industry. QSIA is involved in 'fisheries policy and management planning, marine park policy and planning, native title, seafood safety and quality, research and development, protection of the aquatic environment and marine safety' (QISA, 'Overview': http://www.seafoodsite.com.au/about/ (at 12 November 2005). Members of QSIA include professional fishers, vessel owners, seafood retailers, deckhands, businesses involved in the industry (such as net makers, chandlers, etc) and holders of Commonwealth or Torres Strait fishing entitlements. The QSIA is governed by an elected board overseen by elected representatives from each of the 25 local branches. |
