Summary Information: | |
The Eden Regional Forest Agreement (RFA) is one of 10 RFAs in four States. The RFAs are 20 year plans which are designed to conserve and manage Australia's native forests. The RFAs are also intended to provide certainty for forest-based industries and forest-dependent communities. |
Detailed Information:
New South Wales has three RFAs of which the Eden Agreement is one. The Commonwealth and New South Wales Governments signed the Eden Regional Forest Agreement on 26 August 1999.
The RFA established a 'Comprehensive, Adequate and Representative' (CAR) reserve system which covers approximately one third of the region and more than half of the region's public land. More than 255,000 hectares of the region is in dedicated reserves, with another 12,000 hectares in informal and other reserves.
The purpose of the Eden RFA is to establish the framework for the management of the forests in the Eden region. The parties commit to ensuring that the Agreement is durable, and that the commitments contained within are delivered to ensure effective conservation, management and forest industry outcomes. The FRA is to be reviewed on a five yearly basis.
