| The Kupartiya Community has signed a Shared Responsibility Agreement (SRA) to improve their sport and recreation facitlities. The SRA will provide for a basketball court and shade areas to promote healthy activities for young people. Shared Responsibility Agreements are agreements between governments and Indigenous communities to provide discretionary funding in return for community obligations. The new arrangements developed from an initiative of the Council of Australian Governments and replace the previous ATSIC system of funding. | Purpose The focus of this the agreement is to provide healthy activities for young people. The SRA helps the Kupartiya improve the sport and recreational facilities availble in the community. The facilities will also be used for community activities such as coaching clinics, barbeques, meetings and cultural events. Shared Responsibilities The Commonwelath government will provide funds of $150,000 to construct a new basketball court, and shade cover for a nearby playground. The Kupartiya community will construct the new court. They will also 'maintain and secure the facilities. Parents will organise competitions and act as coaches and referees' (SRA Fact Sheet).
