Summary Information:
The Murdi Paaki Region 'Partnerships' Shared Responsibility Agreement (SRA) is aimed at strengthening community and regional governance in the Murdi Paaki region by providing community facilitators to help implement community plans through related SRAs.

Shared Responsibility Agreements are agreements between governments and Indigenous communities to provide discretionary funding in return for community obligations. The new arrangements developed from an initiative of the Council of Australian Governments and replace the previous ATSIC system of funding. For more information see 'Shared Responsibility Agreement' below.
Detailed Information:

Purpose

The Murdi Paaki region is the New South Wales Council of Australian Governments (COAG) trial site for shared responsibility agreements, and has already signed a number of SRAs involving both regional and individual communities. The Murdi Paaki Region 'Partnerships' SRA, signed in conjunction with the Murdi Paaki Region 'Regional Assembly' SRA, is aimed at strengthening community and regional governance. The SRA provides for eight community facilitators/solution brokers to help implement community plans through related SRAs. The facilitators 'will have a strong focus on community development and provide on-the-ground professional and executive support within communities' for a period of two years.

Shared Responsibilities

Each participating community will complete a community action plan before a community facilitator is placed there. Participating communities will also help in monitoring the progress of their plans; share information with other Community Working Parties in the Murdi Paaki region; and actively develop partnerships with local government and the private and corporate sectors.

The Commonwealth Government will fund part of the cost of employing the facilitators.

The New South Wales Government will fund part of the cost of employing the facilitators.
