Magani Lagaugal (Torres Strait Islanders) Corporation is the registered native title body corporate for the consent native title determination in David on behalf of the Iama People and Tudulaig v State of Queensland [2004] FCA 1576 (13 December 2004). The Corporation was incorporated on 13 May 2002 under the Aboriginal Councils and Assocations Act 1976 (Cth). Article 6 of the Rules of Association set out the objects of the Corporation. They are to hold the native title rights and interests of the Yam Islanders/ Tudulaig People on trust, to perform the functions of a registered native title body corporate under the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth) and to ensure that the interests of the Yam Islanders/ Tudulaig People are paramount. Membership of the Magani Lagaugal (Torres Strait Islanders) Corporation is open to adult Yam Islanders/ Tudulaig People who are holders of native title, regardless of where they reside. |
