Summary Information: | ||
The Cape Barren Island 'Community Harmony Program' Shared Responsibility Agreement (SRA) is one of two SRAs signed on Cape Barren Island in 2005. This SRA relates to the provision of services and programs that promote community harmony. Shared Responsibility Agreements are agreements between governments and Indigenous communities to provide discretionary funding in return for community obligations. The new arrangements developed from an initiative of the Council of Australian Governments and replace the previous ATSIC system of funding. For more information see 'Shared Responsibility Agreement' below.
Detailed Information:
Purpose The focus of this SRA is community cohesion and wellbeing. Under the SRA, wellbeing and community harmony programs will be provided at the Cape Barren Island Community Wellbeing Centre, which is the focus of another SRA. The programs aim to promote good family relationships and commmunity harmony. Shared Responsibilities The Commonwealth government will provide training for the programs, and will work with the Tasmania government and the commmunity to provide regular activities for the community. The Commonwealth government's contribution totals $140,000. The Tasmania government will establish guidelines for community safety in consultation with the community. The community on Barren Island will develop, deliver, participate in and support the programs. At this stage, these include a meals program, children's program and men's and women's groups. This SRA operates in conjunction with the Cape Barren Island 'Building the Community Wellbeing Centre' SRA. Both SRAs are administered by the Hobart Indigenous Coordination Centre. |
