Summary Information: | ||
The community at Billiluna has signed two Shared Responsibility Agreements (SRAs) to provide community facilities and healthy activities for young people. The 'Community Facilities' SRA provides a resource centre at Billiluna. Billiluna is also part of the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) trial SRAs. Shared Responsibility Agreements are agreements between governments and Indigenous communities to provide discretionary funding in return for community obligations. The new arrangements developed from an initiative of the COAG and replace the previous ATSIC system of funding. For more information see 'Shared Responsibility Agreement' below.
Detailed Information:
Purpose The SRA will improve community administration through the construction of a regional administration and resource centre. The centre will allow 'access to computing and other office resources and provide a venue for meetings and gatherings. The centre will also be used by staff involved with the COAG trial' (SRA Fact Sheet). Shared Responsibilities The purchase and installation of two buildings will be funded by the Commonwealth government, who are providing $135,000. Traditional owners at Billiluna will donate a third building. The Billiluna Community will assist with constructing the new centre. Both Billiluna SRAs are administered by the Kununurra Indigenous Coordination Centre. |
