The Alice Springs Regional Council was one of the Regional Councils created as the regional level of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission (ATSIC).
The Regional Council developed a regional plan to enhance the development and co-ordination of the representation of, policy-making by, and service delivery to Aboriginal people in the Alice Springs region.
The regional plan is summarised in the 2005 Social Justice Report of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner. Key elements include ensuring equitable access to services and resources, building a strong Indigenous economy, building the capacity of individuals, and progressing towards a regional agreement.
The Regional Council was disbanded in 2005 following the abolition of ATSIC in 2004. |
