The Ngaanyatjarra Municipal Services Shared Responsibility Agreement (SRA) is one of three such agreements signed in Ngaanyatjarra Lands as part of the Ngaanyatjarra Regional Partnership Agreement (RPA). The Ngaanyatjarra SRA deals with municipal and essential services in most of the communities in Ngaanyatjarra Shire.

Shared Responsibility Agreements are agreements between governments and Indigenous communities to provide discretionary funding in return for community obligations. The new arrangements are developed from an initiative of the Council of Australian Governments and replace the previous ATSIC system of funding. For more information see 'Shared Responsibility Agreement' below.
Detailed Information:

Purpose

The Ngaanyatjarra SRA is aimed at improving essential and municipal services in the Ngaanyatjarra communities with $4.2 million of Commonwealth funding.

Shared Responsibilities

Under the SRA, the local community have agreed to ensure power bills are paid, to reduce over-consumption of power, and to enter into arrangements to settle outstanding debts.

The government parties will provide funding for the improvement of municipal services and will work with local people to determine how services will be better delivered.
