    Summary Information:
The Wanarn Shared Responsibility Agreement (SRA) is one of three such agreements signed in Ngaanyatjarra Lands as part of the Ngaanyatjarra Regional Partnership Agreement (RPA). The Wanarn SRA aims to redevelop the community store into a youth centre and new store. The SRA is focused on youth, business development, nutrition, education and training.

Shared Responsibility Agreements are agreements between governments and Indigenous communities to provide discretionary funding in return for community obligations. The new arrangements are developed from an initiative of the Council of Australian Governments and replace the previous ATSIC system of funding. For more information see 'Shared Responsibility Agreement' below.
    Detailed Information:
    Purpose

The Wanarn community want to develop the community store and encourage the involvement of young people in community life. The SRA provides for the construction of a new store and the conversion of the old store into a youth centre. The agreement also sets up two youth positions on the community council, and provides for the creation of a specialised 'youth council'.

    Shared Responsibilities

Under the SRA, the local community will contribute funds for the renovation and construction work. Members of the community have also agreed to ensure that their children attend school and participate in youth programs and activities, particularly nutrition and healthy food programs.

The government parties will provide retail and nutrition training for the store. The Commonwealth government will provide an interest free loan and funding for the construction of a training centre, while the Shire of Ngaanyatjarraku will provide a youth worker for the new youth centre.
