| The Wellington 'Family Harmony Day and Concert' Shared Responsibility Agreement (SRA) was signed as part of the Wellington Aboriginal Community's drive to 'build stronger families and help young people at risk'. The SRA is designed to link families with services and community planning. Shared Responsibility Agreements are agreements between governments and Indigenous communities to provide discretionary funding in return for community obligations. The new arrangements developed from an initiative of the Council of Australian Governments and replace the previous ATSIC system of funding. | Purpose The SRA was designed to assist with the promotion of local family and youth services through a concert and harmony day, and to provide for capacity building in these areas within the community. Shared Responsibilities Under the SRA, the newly formed Wellington Community Working Party will organise the concert and harmony day, and will employ a consultant who will work with the Wellington community to develop 'an action plan reflecting community priorities'. Members of the local community will take part in the concert and harmony day activities and will help to develop the action plan. They will also volunteer to mentor young people and be trained for this role. The Commonwealth government will provide funding for the concert and harmony day, the consultant, and the training for community volunteers. It will also provide training in governance to the Working Party. Government agencies at all levels will promote their services at the harmony day. The Wellington Shire Council will provide the use of a free venue for the event. | ||
