| The Bathurst 'Opportunities Through Access' Shared Responsibility Agreement (SRA) was signed between the Bathurst Aboriginal community and the Commonwealth government to facilitate better access to employment, training and community services for the community. To further these ends, the SRA provides for community transport and family violence awareness training. Shared Responsibility Agreements are agreements between governments and Indigenous communities to provide discretionary funding in return for community obligations. The new arrangements developed from an initiative of the Council of Australian Governments and replace the previous ATSIC system of funding. | Purpose The Bathurst SRA will provide a 12-seater bus and trailer for community transport, which will help facilitate a number of community programs, including: The SRA also provides for the holding of an Aboriginal Day to help build stronger families through community activities. Shared Responsibilities The local community will establish a working group to oversee implementation of the SRA. They have agreed to develop a management plan for the bus, provide volunteers to drive it, and engage facilitators for family violence awareness training. Community members will also do farm skills training through CDEP, use the bus to access services, participate in the family violence training and support community activities such as the Aboriginal Day. The Bathurst Local Aboriginal Land Council will allow use of its premises free of charge to expand men's and women's health services. The Commonwealth Government will provide funding for the bus, and will provide the venue and catering for the family violence awareness training. | ||
