Summary Information: | ||
The Port Augusta-Davenport 'Support for Students' Shared Responsibility Agreement (SRA) is aimed at supporting young people in Port Augusta and Davenport to finish school, as well as to enter 'further education as a pathway to meaningful employment.' Shared Responsibility Agreements are agreements between governments and Indigenous communities to provide discretionary funding in return for community obligations. The new arrangements developed from an initiative of the Council of Australian Governments and replace the previous ATSIC system of funding. For more information see 'Shared Responsibility Agreement' below.
Detailed Information:
Purpose The SRA provides education programs and courses, as well as mentoring, for students at the Port Augusta public secondary school, of whom 35 percent are Indigenous. These will include an after-hours homework centre and opportunities for students to participate in extra-curricular activities and university visits. Shared Responsibilities The community will identify young people for whom university open days, mentoring or extra-curricular activities would be appropriate. Mentors from the community will work with students, and both parents and students will commit to participating in these education programs and courses. A local organisation will provide an off-school site and IT support for the after-hours homework centre. The Commonwealth and South Australian governments will fund the education programs, university visits, extra-curricular courses and mentoring. |
