The Watarru Community was established by the Anangu people (a collective reference to the Pitjantjatjara, Ngaanyatjarra and Yankunytjatjara Aboriginal peoples), and began flourishing in the early 1990s (Waru Website, January 2007).
It has a small population of about 50 - 60 (ABC Radio National Website, January 2005) and is an Indigenous Protected Area (IPA) within the Watarru Indigenous Protected Area. | |
