Summary Information: | ||
The Overarching Agreement on Aboriginal Affairs between the Commonwealth of Australia and the State of New South Wales 2005-2010 (also referred to as the Bilateral Agreement on Service Delivery to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in New South Wales) was signed by the Prime Minister, John Howard, and the Premier of New South Wales, Morris Iemma, on 17 April 2006. This five-year agreement aims to improve Indigenous access to services. It is part of the implementation of Two Ways Together: the NSW Aboriginal Affairs Plan 2003-2012. This is the fourth bilateral agreement to result from the Council of Australian Governments' (COAG) 'National Framework of Principles for Delivering Services to Indigenous Australians' endorsed in June 2004.
Detailed Information:
The two governments have agreed upon action regarding wealth and employment, entrepreneurialism, living conditions, health and social outcomes in Indigenous communities. The agreement is also designed to better integrate government services to Indigenous communities. Implementation of the agreement will be supervised by the Intergovernmental Aboriginal Affairs Group, which has been established for this purpose. |
