Summary Information: | ||
The Co-operation - Land Council Intra-Aboriginal Agreement is a template Intra-Aboriginal Agreement provided by the National Native Title Tribunal (NNTT). It is envisaged by the NNTT that these agreements will be used to assist parties to negotiate Intra-Aboriginal Agreements that can be tailored to their specific needs and circumstances. The Co-operation - Land Council Agreement is designed to be used for negotiations between native title claimants and a Native Title Representative Body. It is envisaged that this Agreement would be used where disputes had arisen between both people within the native title party, and between the native title party and the Land Council that represents them. The template agreement covers matters including the setting up of an Independent Body made up of members of the native title party, funded by the Land Council. This Independent Body would represent the Aboriginal group asserting native title over the particular area. Once set up, the Independent Body would invite expressions of interest for their native title legal representation, as well as being responsible for negotiating with mining companies. | ||
