The Aboriginal Rainforest Council (ARC) was formed by 18 rainforest Aboriginal peoples in the Wet Tropics region on the north coast of Queensland. It represents over 20,000 Aboriginal people in relation to the management of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. It was an important participant in the negotiations which led to the Wet Tropics Regional Agreement. The ARC was set up, and currently continues to run, with funding support from the federal government.
The ARC acts as a communication network between Rainforest Aboriginal groups at a grassroots level, and is a Rainforest Aboriginal Advisory Committee to the Wet Tropics Management Authority Board under the Wet Tropics Protection and Management Act 1993 (Qld). |
