The Pilbara Development Commission is established as a Statutory Authority under the Regional Development Commissions Act 1993 (WA). It is one of nine development commissions established under this Act by the Government of Western Australia. 'The Commission's role is to co-ordinate and promote the economic development of the Pilbara, specifically to: -Maximise job creation and improve career opportunities in the region; -Develop and broaden the economic base of the region; -Identify infrastructure services to promote economic and social development within the region; -Provide information and advice to promote business development within the region; -Seek to ensure that the general standard of and access to government services in the region are comparable to those in metropolitan areas; -Generally take steps to encourage, promote, facilitate and monitor the economic development of the region.'
