The New South Wales Aboriginal Health Strategic Plan 'is an initiative under the NSW Aboriginal Health Partnership [1997] and the NSW Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Health Agreement (1996)' ('the Strategic Plan'). The Strategic Plan presents strategies for improving health outcomes and for addressing planning issues in relation to the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in New South Wales. | ||

The supportive strategies of the Strategic Plan are as follows: 'A. Effective partnerships and cultural awareness B. Improved Commonwealth and State co-ordination C. Support and development of the Aboriginal health workforce D. Effective monitoring of progress against agreed performance indicators and improved collection of health information E. Informed decision making supported by a needs based resource allocation model'. The key priorities of the Strategic Plan are as follows: '1. Improving access to health services 2. Addressing identified health issues 3. Improving social and emotional well being 4. Increasing the effectiveness of health promotion 5. Creating an environment supportive of good health'. Implementation of the Strategic Plan is to be monitored by the NSW Aboriginal Health Forum (at the state level) and by Area Health Service Performance Agreements and annual reports to the Australian Health Ministers Advisory Council (AHMAC) (at the area level). The Strategic Plan sets out a target date for each component of its supportive strategies and key priorities. |
