Summary Information: | ||
The Agreement on South Australian Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing was signed by the South Australian Government, the Australian Government's Department of Health and Ageing and the Aboriginal Health Council of South Australia Inc ('the Agreement'). The Agreement follows the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Framework Agreement that was signed in 1996 and resigned in 2001. It is consistent with the National Strategic Framework for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workforce National Strategic Framework, the National Cultural Respect Framework and the National Principles for Service Delivery to Indigenous Australians. The aim of the Agreement is to provide 'a framework for the partners to work together and in partnership with Aboriginal people and communities, in a spirit of cooperation and collaboration, to improve health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal people in South Australia.'
Detailed Information:
The end sought by the Agreement is improved access to services and 'greater equity of health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal people.' To accomplish this, the parties agree to: - improve the planning, monitoring and accountability aspects of health services for Aboriginal people; - enhance data collection and information systems that can be used for planning health programs; - develop a competent health workforce; - increase resource allocation; and - establish intersectoral linkages. |
