| According to the Waru.org wesbite, Amata Community is 'located at the western end of the Musgrave Ranges in South Australia, about 10 km south of the Northern Territory border. It lies approximately 380 km south west of Alice Springs as the crow flies'.

Amata Community Council Inc is an incorporated body governed by the South Australian Associations and Incorporations Act 1974 (SA). It is also the Community Development and Employment Programme (CDEP) organisation for the Amata community.
According to the Waru.org website, Amata Community was 'established as a cattle outstation in the 1960's, to take the pressure off the increasing growth of Pukatja (Ernabella)'. 'The community is made up of approximately 300 Anangu Maru (aboriginal people) who speak Pitjantjatjara as their first language and English as a second language'. | |
