    This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed by the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) of the New South Wales Department of Environment and Conservation and the Pilliga Nature Reserve Aboriginal Consultative Committee in March 2004. The MOU formalises the partnership between the parties. It is an example of Aboriginal co-management of national parks (see DEC 2005).

    The NPWS Northern Plains Regional Manager, Wayne Dornbusch, said at the time of signing that the MOU aimed to provide 'an avenue of sustained, proactive and meaningful input from the Consultative Committee into the management of the Pilliga Nature Reserve' (DEC 2004).
    Outcomes:
    The NPWS and the Pilliga Nature Reserve Aboriginal Consultative Committee marked five years of successful cooperation (including time before the signing of the MOU) at a celebration held in the Pilliga Nature Reserve on 26 June 2007 (DEC 2007).
