On 6 May 2006, the Gulaga and Biamanga National Parks were formally handed back to their traditional owners, the Yuin people, under the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974 (NSW). The handback occurred through the signing of an agreement by the NSW Environment Minister, the Hon. Bob Debus, and the Yuin People.
The Parks are leased back to the National Parks and Wildlife Service under the Gulaga National Park Lease Agreement and the Biamanga National Park Lease Agreement. They are managed by a joint board, which has a majority of Aboriginal owner representation. |
