Summary Information: | ||
The Torres Strait Health Partnership Framework Agreement was signed by the Minister for Health and Ageing (Commonwealth), the Minister for Health (Queensland), the Torres Strait Regional Authority (TSRA), the Island Coordinating Council (ICC) and the Torres Strait and Northern Peninsula Area District Health Council on 25 July 2006. This Agreement follows the Torres Strait Health Framework Agreement signed in February 1999 (TSRA 2002).
Detailed Information:
Under the Agreement, the parties agree to: - enhance access to health programs and improve the reporting and sharing of these programs; - increase health services resources; and - improve service delivery through joint planning and Indigenous participation on decision making. The government intends for the Agreement to lead to 'better coordination and more effective use of funds' regarding the health needs of the region (Abbott 2006). The Chairperson of both the TSRA and the Torres Strait Health Partnership, Toshie Kris, states that the Partnership will 'be focusing on key areas like improving the sharing and delivery of health information … to assist in the promotion of good health and illness prevention, including Dengue and AIDS awareness' (TSRA 2006). It is envisaged that the Partnership will also focus on Specialist Care (for example, in establishing a renal dialysis care centre) and in improving environmental health infrastructure (TSRA 2006). |
