    Summary Information:
    The Derby 'Derby Backstreets Clean Up Project' Shared Responsibility Agreement (SRA) was agreed between the Australian Government (through the Department of Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs) and the Derby Indigenous Community on 27 April 2007. The SRA aims to fund two community clean up events in April and June 2007.

    Shared Responsibility Agreements are agreements between governments and Indigenous communities to provide discretionary funding in return for community obligations. The new arrangements developed from an initiative of the Council of Australian Governments and replace the previous ATSIC system of funding.     Detailed Information:
    Purpose
    The purpose of this SRA is to clean up the Derby neighbourhood, which, the SRA states is 'relatively degraded' many yards are unkempt and often unusable spaces which also renders them unsafe.'

    Shared Responsibilities
    The community, in particular the women, will undertake the organising and labour involved in this clean up; will engage with other community service providers; and will promote ongoing community activities of this nature. Families and individuals will ensure that their school aged children are attending school.

    Performance Indicators
    The proportion of community members who participate in the community clean-up will be provided once by the community, as an indication of the effectiveness of this SRA. The community have also agreed to take before and after photographs of the participants and contribute to a short qualitative report about the project.
